Learn More About Treatment for Anxiety at Acadiana Treatment Center
Generalized Anxiety Disorder (GAD) is an incredibly painful experience for those who suffer from it, given the constant anxiety and fear. GAD is worsened by the inability to predict what may make it better or worse. After attempting to control the symptoms, individuals with GAD often develop learned helplessness. Learned helplessness means that due to unsuccessful attempts to affect changes in their life, there is nothing they can do and stop trying. When additional anxiety symptoms develop, the individual becomes even more hopeless. It is not unusual for GAD to co-occur with other disorders such as depression or substance abuse, which can make treatment more complex.
At our treatment center, we understand how out of control your world has become and how helpless you feel. After years of helping individuals suffering from GAD, we know that you have unique strengths and capabilities. While you may not believe this, we will guide you to greater insight about yourself. We will work to help you discover the ways these strengths can provide confidence that you can recover from GAD and build a life filled with happiness, satisfaction, and love.

When you come to us, you’ll be assessed to determine which area of our program will best suit your needs to ensure you’re receiving the right care for you. We’ll work alongside you to create a treatment plan of care for your stay with us that firmly places you in the driver’s seat. We know you can recover from GAD and we’re ready to help show you how. We offer a variety of programs and therapies to allow you the full spectrum of anxiety care.
Our residential treatment program is available for individuals who are stable enough to participate in recovery from GAD. Individuals in our residential treatment program will be monitored for safety 24-hours a day. In residential treatment, we focus on helping you emotionally stabilize, learn more about your generalized anxiety disorder, and help you learn the skills you need to be an active member of your recovery.
We offer male and female extended care residential treatment programs after your primary care has been completed. These programs begin where your initial treatment has left off, ensuring continuity of care. Lasting a minimum of three months, and occurring in three different phases, we will teach you greater recovery tools, relapse prevention, and coping skills.
Each of the programs at Acadiana Treatment Center is comprised of a number of treatment techniques. Specific types of therapy we use include:
Individual Therapy – Each client in our program receives at least one individual therapy session per week, however, the normal amount of one-on-one sessions tend to run 2-3 per week. This allows you alone time to focus on your problems and develop new coping mechanisms.
Group Therapy – Group therapy has proven to be one of the most effective treatment for GAD. We offer a combination of process-based and educational groups to help you connect with others who are struggling with similar challenges. We ask that each member of the group write an autobiography and share it with the rest of the group in an effort to bond with one another and see that you are not alone in your struggles.
Family Therapy – The support and love of family is vital to your recovery and we offer family sessions to allow family members to better understand your disorder, treatments, and discharge. We’ll allow sessions where family members are openly able to discuss ways in which your GAD has affected their lives. We offer a 3-day family workshop for your family and loved ones to learn more about GAD.
Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) – CBT will help you to identify and alter maladaptive thought processes and learn to respond to situations in different ways. Altering thought patterns is also reflected in different emotional responses and actions.
Rational Emotive Behavioral Therapy (REBT) – Similar to CBT, REBT focuses on altering irrational though patterns while balancing acceptance of past situations and tolerance of strong emotions which can’t be fully controlled.
Motivational Interviewing – This therapeutic method emphasizes building trust and rapport with the counselor and through use of interviewing in order to stimulate the desire and commitment to change and accomplish set goals.
In addition to our regular therapy modalities, we also offer several non-traditional approaches to help you continue to make progress in your recovery. These options include:
- Nutritional counseling
- A.A. and N.A.
- Art therapy
- Spiritual counseling
- Recreational programs
- Spiritual counseling
- Vocational planning
